The Architects of Camellia

by Chad Cannon

Documentary short (43mins) by Oscar-nominated director Christine Choy. In Xin County, Henan Province, China, a transformation in the countryside unfolds as the nation industrializes. Through the lens of Alex Zou, a Chinese-American born in Massachusetts, filmmaker Christine Choy records the transition from traditional camellia oil-making methods to automation in factories. In the process, Alex connects with his roots in his father's hometown and searches for answers to some of life's larger questions.

Recorded by AFM musicians in Los Angeles, CA, this score features Chinese musicians Li Qi (erhu) and Cynthia Hsiang (guzheng), as well as Andrew Synowiec (pipa) and Matthew Cook (percussion).
